DAY 7 Inti Raymi Festival

This morning you will be transferred to the ruins of Sacssayhuaman where you will join a group to observe the Inca Festival, Inti Raymi. The Inti Raymi is a traditional Inca and Andean ceremony held in honor to the Inti or Sun god, every June 24, in the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere. The Incas considered the Sun as bearer of life, its presence was essential, that is why at winter time when the sun was disappearing from the sky, the cold became intense and the water became frost; it was necessary to ask it to return by means of the celebration of the Inti Raymi.
The Incas considered time as part of a cycle and the winter solstice marked the beginning of a new time. At Inca times the celebration lasted approximately 15 days, with dances, ceremonies and sacrifices to the Sun god, then, the Spaniards prohibited this festivity for considering it to be a pagan holiday. Lunch is included as part of your tour.

DAY 8 Journey to Machu Picchu

Early this morning you will head to the station to board your train, where for the next hour and a half, the train will meander its way through the mountains and switchbacks before reaching Aguas Calientes, the town below Machu Picchu. Your guide will take you through some of the features and explain why the Incas where considered so advanced by looking at the concepts and theories behind their advanced building, irrigation and farming system. You can choose to continue exploring the site from the many platforms and vantage points at your leisure. Afterwards, board the bus back to town to settle into your hotel.
